ENDLESS SUMMER- MEETING ROBERT AUGUST

ROBERT AUGUST,GRAYSON AND KATHY GOODWIN
GRAYSON GOODWIN MEETING ROBERT AUGUST
ROBERT AUGUST SIGNING A BAG FULL
OF TRINKETS FOR GRAYSON
ROBERT AUGUST

Meeting Robert August

Robert August is a charming man. He was an absolute delight to meet and talk with. He graciously signed an entire bag of trinkets Grayson wanted to bring back as souvenirs to his friends in Washington.

I also got his autograph for myself and my dearest friend Matt who was a former surfer back in his hay day.

Robert August (born 1945) is an American surfer and surfboard shaper. Raised in Huntington Beach, CA he attended Huntington Beach High School where we was ASB President his senior year. He is most famous as one of the subjects of Bruce Brown's 1966 surf documentary The Endless Summer, along with his friend Mike Hynson. The film follows the two around the world pursuing their hobby during the California offseason, meeting other surfers and discussing surf culture.
August picked up surfing in the 1950s, when the sport's popularity had just begun to grow. His father, Blackie August, was also a noted surfer. His enthusiasm and his involvement in The Endless Summer influenced the growth of the sport over the following decades. His surfboards are sold under the Robert August Surfboards brand and are produced by Surftech, a company that manufactures lightweight epoxy surfboards. He continues to travel the world promoting surfing, and in 1994, he was involved in the filming of The Endless Summer II, in which surfers Pat O'Connell and Robert "Wingnut" Weaver retrace the places visited by August and Hynson thirty years earlier. He took part in the Film Step into Liquid.

I was very intrigued by the diversity of his ventures. He sells custom surfboards, Skateboards, and Beach Cruisers and he even has his own winery. I talked to him briefly about this and he told me that he kept it simple he makes a red and a white. To which I replied" With that who needs anything else."

OUR LITTLE MATERNITY NURSE...FREE KITTENS

SALLY HAS NOT LET THESE KITTENS OUT OF HER SIGHT,
SINCE WE STARTED BABYSITTING THEM LAST NIGHT.
SHE IS A DUTIFUL LITTLE NURSE ISN'T SHE.

I AM TRYING TO GIVE AWAY THESE KITTENS.
SO IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED , PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
I was able to find homes for these little ones this morning, thank goodness. My husband woud have been a little upset with me if they were still here today when he got home.

Little Johnny?

My old school desk is already getting use.
I got it all cleaned up and brought it into the house.
When I walked into the kichen
I had to smile seeing it was already
getting some use.

THE LEGEND OF THE SAND DOLLAR

The Legend of the Sand Dollar
*
That I would like to tell
Of the birth and death of Jesus
Found in this lovely shell.
If you will examine closely,
You'll see that you find here
Four nail holes a fifth one
Made by a Roman's spear.
On one side the Easter Lily,
It's center is the star
That appeared unto the shepherds
And led them from afar.
*
The Christmas Poinsettia
Etched on the other side
Reminds us of his birthday,
Our happy Christmas tide.
*
Now break the center open
And here you will release
The five white doves awaiting
To spread good will and peace
This simple little symbol,
Christ left for you and me.

GREETINGS FROM FRANCE

Dear Kathy,

Paul came safe and sound from his trip back home. Full of very good memories, he loved his stay with you and your family.
Thank you again for welcoming my boy so well, you have done more than you should have done.. Paul came back confident and happy. Everyday, Paul tells us about Grayson and about Texas, he is fascinated by USA . He had a wonderful time with Grayson, nice and good company boy, good personality.
So Kathy, if one day you have the intention to travel to Europe and specially to France, please do not hesitate to come down to us in the south west of France, you will be more than welcome.

Best regards
Evelyne
