FISH PEDICURES IN CHAING MAI

While walking thru the night market in Chaing Mai

We came across the Fish Pedicure. It didn't take long before we were all on board with trying it. First the proprietress of the booth washes your feet and legs then tells you to take your seat, spreading your feet about a foot apart. The fish then begin to nibble on the dead skin on your feet. The feeling is intense almost like electricity at first as hundreds of little fish are swimming around and nibbling on your tootsies. After a few minutes you get used to it and its quite pleasant. The pedicure lasts 20 mins. My husband screamed like a little girl for a full 5 minutes. He had the worst feet of all and the fish quickly abandoned the rest of us while they went on a feeding frenzy on his feet. The next day he kept commenting about how nice and smooth his feet felt. I can also say that after traveling 3 weeks my cuticles needed a little cleaning up and the fish did the job. It was definitely a fun experience.

(Doctor fish is the name given to two species of fish: Garra rufa and Cyprinion macrostomus that are used for thse pedicures, I have also heard them called little Carp)
